I look forward to reading your rereadings. I love Mansfield Park, and it is probably my favourite, though it was the last of her novels that I read. Reading her again later in life, I appreciate Jane Austen now far more than I did when reading her at A level!

Me too. I find I appreciate her more and more. Her skill as a writer is now very apparent to me but I continue to love the stories too.

I’ve already looked at Northanger Abbey, a novel I’d read a couple of times but hadn’t really thought about in detail. Not my favourite, however, this time around I found myself actually enjoying it more.

It is not my favourite either, but I should read it again as the background to the Gothic novel is so interesting. I am sure I will gain more from it now!

Loved this! And look forward to celebrating an Austentastic year reading your newsletter . Really rare to start with MP and to have found your way to loving it. I will eagerly anticipate your thoughts on that one.

Thank you. I was lucky to have such a gifted English teacher. It's going to be a great Austen year of re-reading.

I like your observations on Mansfield Park, and envy you the experience of being introduced by a good teacher.

I agree that Fanny may be the hardest of Austens MCs for modern readers to relate to—and that's a real shame, because MP is also one of the richest of the novels in temrs of subtext.
